Take one part con man, one part sorcerer, and
an equal part of entertainer and inventor. Mix well, and you will end
with someone like Gregory Wilson. A magician you cannot help but
like, even when he is pulling a fast one on you. It seems that no
matter how hard you keep an eye on him, he is always one step ahead
of you. So when you do catch him, it is because he lets you. Then he
mystifies you by his next magical move, proving to you that you
didn't really catch him anyway.
Many magicians will show their card skills by
cutting the Aces from a deck of cards. Gregory takes this one step
further. In his routine "Phoenix Aces," he produces the
Aces from the thin air one card at a time. In essence he gets
something for nothing. Wait a minute, "Something for
Nothing" is the name of another routine Gregory does, where he
produces a coin by using his imagination.
He plucks an imaginary coin from thin air and
starts tossing it. At one point he will call heads or tails, and then
slap the imaginary coin onto the back of his hand. When he looks to
see if it is heads or tails the imaginary coin has turned into a real
one. Yet, when he grabs the coin to toss it again the coin changes
back to an imaginary coin. The coin does not reappear again until he
again calls heads or tails. The imaginary coin becomes so real that
he can hand it out for inspection by others. He will prove the power
of imagination, and toss the coin into the air again. This time the
coin will change in midair from a silver to a copper coin.
These effects and others can be found on two
videos by Gregory Wilson "Double Take," and "Off the
Cuff." If you get "Off the Cuff" take the time to
learn the "Pitch and Ditch." This magical move will allow
you to transform silver to copper coins in midair. It is well worth
the time and effort to learn. However, if you feel ambitious (as in
cards) then you will want to get "Double Take." |
