Paper Money Magic

20001017.pdf

The topic of our October meeting was “Paper Money Magic.” Steven Clark did a pencil-through-bill effect, explaining that the pencil simply melted through the bill. It was great! Chris Kenny showed a bill that shrank when placed in a wallet. Jim Davis did a borrowed bill bar bet. Finally, Paul Draper borrowed six bills. He then turned his back and asked Thalia Swinyer to mark one of the bills. Paul then used his psychic powers to find the marked bill.

New Members Join Ring 193

During our October meeting, three individuals auditioned for membership in the Ring. The first to perform was Gene Warner. Gene did an original card trick with his Palm Pilot. He asked Ron Seward to select a card from a deck of cards. Gene then pulled out his palm pilot and said that it would show Ron’s card. Upon inspection, his Palm Pilot did show the back of a card. However, when he showed the Palm Pilot again, it did indeed show the face of Ron’s selected card.

Skylar Gunther

Next to audition was Skylar Gunther. Skylar had a card selected and returned to the deck. He mixed up the deck, spread the cards, and showed that Ron’s card had somehow turned face up. He also did a great rendition of Invisible Quarters.

The last to audition was Devin Anderson. Devin had a card selected. Then he tried to find the card but somehow kept finding the wrong card. In the end, the selected card hovered out of the deck and spun around his body. It was a terrific effect and a unique way to use the boom-a-rang card.

Devin Anderson

Congratulations to all three individuals for being brave enough to stand up in from of everybody and audition for membership in our Ring. Based on their performances, all three individuals were granted membership in the club. Please look for these new members in our next meeting and extend a welcome hand to each one.

Harry Schumann Injured in Car Accident

We regret to announce that recently Harry Schumann was injured in an automobile accident in Sardine Canyon. Although Harry is home now, he sustained back and neck injuries and suffered a broken leg. In addition, he lost a great deal of his magic equipment in the accident. The club would like to consider taking donations for Harry. Please attend our next meeting to discuss this issue.

Member Spotlight

Ron Seward was our member spotlight for the October meeting. Ron showed us what he calls “Tricks from the Pocket.” For his first trick, he performed a great effect called “Gambler against the Magician” in which he showed nine cards - eight blank cards and one ace. After dealing the cards, the gambler turned them into four aces and the magician turned them into a royal flush.

Next Ron borrowed a $20 bill. He showed a small printer and explained that he could print money. He put the $20 in the printer, made an “imprint” of the bill, and returned it to the spectator. Ron then produced a blank piece of paper, put it in his printer, and it made a new $20 bill.

Ron finished his member spotlight by changing five $1 bills into five million-dollar bills. It amazing to see how Ron has perfected this trick to make it look so simple and natural. Based on Ron’s performance repertoire, he better hope that a copy of this newsletter doesn’t find its way into the hands of the IRS. Thanks to Ron for showing us some of his magic.
