MEETING MINUTES:
Chris Huddleston started off our February meeting by performing several tricks in order to demonstrate that he is a legitimate candidate for IBM membership. He performed a number of card tricks, including Card Warp and Red Hot Mama. Following his performance, the group was satisfied that Chris does indeed have a sincere interest in magic and that he is an acceptable candidate for IBM membership.

Following Chris's performance, Anthony White introduced this month's topic, “Pocket Tricks” – tricks that you can carry in your pocket and perform on a moment's notice. We discovered that our members have quite a variety of opinions regarding what they consider “pocket tricks.” Some members considered a pocket trick to be card tricks that can easily be carried in your wallet. Others considered this to be impromptu magic that can be performed with little or no preparation. Ron Wright started off by doing a coin box routine. Eric Wanner then amazed us all by performing You Won't Believe Your Eyes and Diminishing Returns. Don Lujan did several interesting effects, including a joker routine about riding off into the sunset and an amazing rope routine. Ed Rock then performed Nick Trost's Ace in the Hole.

Following these performances, we took a short intermission, during which members selected a trick from our local IBM library to perform in next month's meeting entitled “Pick-a-Trick” performance night. The motivation behind “Pick-a-Trick” night is to encourage our members to add to their repertoire and to expand their performance abilities.

After intermission, Brad Gordon performed an effect from David Regal's book, which was of particular interest to the group because David Regal's name has come up in our recent consideration for possible lecturers this year. Jess Cone performed a prediction card trick based on ideas from Gemini Twins. Anthony White levitated a pocketknife and performed Ghost Disk and The Insurance Policy. Brandon Johnson showed us an excellent trick involving the Ace of Spades. Although only a Junior Member, Brandon's sleight of hand with cards is impressive. Derek Hauser closed the evening's performances by showing some slight of hand coin moves, pulling coins out of the strangest places, including his own nose. Derek explained that his view of a “Pocket Trick” is something simple that can be performed impromptu with ordinary coins that you carry around in your pocket all of the time.
