After conducting some routine monthly business, Ron Seward, Vice Present of Ring 193, introduced our guest lecturer for the evening – Michael Close. Salt Lake City had the privilege of being Michael’s final stop on his U.S. Farewell Lecture Tour, and quite a Farewell Lecture it was!

Michael performed The Lie Detector and gave the group some excellent advice for getting tipped while performing in the restaurant business. He then performed the Origami Bill Production, Renaldo the Great, and Great,

and Rocco Returns. He explained that it has often taken him months to work the problems out of certain effects. He taught that in order to fix the problems, you either need to adjust the presentation or adjust the actions to make it appear natural.

He then issued a challenge to everyone present to take a trick that is sitting in the closet and dedicate the time and effort necessary to solve the problem. Michael concluded the first half of his lecture by performing his routine You Hue.

During the first half of the lecture, Michael masterfully demonstrated the power of a memorized deck and the Faro Shuffle. Even the most seasoned magicians present were in awe at Michael’s abilities with a memorized deck.

For the second half of the lecture, Michael performed Close’s Dungeon, Close’s Clones, Down for the Count, Pink Floyd, Aces in Their Faces, Killer Red Caps, and The Frog Prince. He concluded his Farewell Lecture by performing his classic, The Pothole Trick. It was an excellent evening in which all present were greatly benefited by Michael’s insight and knowledge of magic.
