Annual Family Picnic had a great turnout. David, and Kathryn Johnson hosted the picnic at their place this year. Thank you, David and Katherine for your kind hospitality. The picnic began with performances by young magicians. Eric Wanner was the Master of Ceremony, and he started the entertainment by doing a card trick. A spectator selected a card (the three of spades) and freely shuffled the card into the deck. Eric snapped his fingers and the card raise to the top of the deck. Of course, all of the cards in the deck were the same. Still, it goes to show that even the simplest trick can mystify an audience when presented correctly.
Out of all the contestants three were selected as winners, Blaine Wanner, Jessica White, and Kyla Wanner. Blaine Wanner did "What's Next," followed by a guillotine act. In "What's Next" the number of dotes on a card kept changing when Blaine turned over the card. It didn't end until the card was saturated with dotes. In the act with the guillotine Blaine got a volunteer from the audience and placed them in the guillotine. When Blaine pulled the cord, the blade descended through the volunteer's neck without harming them in any way.
Jessica White did an "Ambitious Card" routine where a selected card (six of diamonds) is placed in the middle of the deck, and is magical returned to the top of the deck. She did it so well that everyone suspected that all the cards in the deck were the same. However, when she fanned the deck out it was evident only one card was the "six of diamonds" and it was on the top of the deck. The youngest performer was Kyla Wanner, and she performed a coin slide illusion. She took a coin and placed it in a coin slide. She then inserted the coin slide into a small box, and when she removed it the coin was magical transformed. Each winner received a $10.00 gift certificate for Showplace Novelty and Magic, courtesy of Steve Simbeck. Thank you, Steve.
The picnic followed the performances of the young magicians. The food was plentiful, and the company was entertaining. The picnic was a success due to the aid of all the members. Following the picnic Bert Dannenberg collection of magical items were put up for auction. Several people were instrumental in getting this auction going, Ron Seward for obtaining the collection for auction, Ruth Sulik for inventorying the collection, and Anthony & Kathleen White for keeping track of the bids. The proceeds were sent to Bert's widow Elaine Dannenberg.

Due to the failing health of family members, I no longer have
the necessary time to devote to the magic club and its members, and
feel that it is essential that I resign as president, allowing the
other capable leaders to direct this club through the remainder of
the year.
